Richter Cake...Inside

Inside...I wanted to try out a new flavor combo. Sometimes I like to stretch myself in to flavors that aren't my usual go-tos. I love chocolate, caramel, peanut butter, coffee, strawberry, hazelnut... You know, the cozy stuff. I'm am confident and proud of my comfort-zone palate, but, ever since I was on The Great American Baking Show, I do feel a little bit of pressure to be inventive. This is totally self imposed pressure, and I haven decided if it comes from growth and inspiration or if it's from an insecure desire to impress. I'll let you know when I find out. Blah, blah, blah...I know I'm rambling, but I wanted to share, ok?

When I bake, I aim to make things that are crave-able. That's where I have a bit of a rub with things like lavender. Maybe it's because I'm not doing it right, but I would never be tempted to over eat a lavender dessert. I don't think it's the way I'm baking with it because I've had lavender sweets from professionals and I feel the same. I've never found myself with an irresistible urge at midnight to whip up some lavender macarons. I've had them, there are okay, but not craving inducing for me. If someone out there has a way to turn me around on this, I'm open minded and ready to try. Let me know.

That brings me to this cake. It's good. The pepper and lavender flavor combo is pleasant. It's a little floral and slightly warm as you might expect. It's actually better than good. It's lovely. Perfect for a Mother's Day tea party. However, I'd probably prefer whatever you're making for dad. They always get something delicious and chocolate-y. ;)

***If you are a lavender lover and you'd like the recipe, let me know. I'll happily share it.
