Caramel Pecan Birthday Cake

I'm super thrilled that someone else asked me to make them a birthday cake! It's such a pleasure to create a special cake for a special day. This cake is pecan and espresso cake covered in caramel buttercream and caramel drizzle. It's totally decadent because I'm pretty sure that calories don't count on your birthday. ;)

I really like the natural irregular drips of the caramel sauce, but I wanted to visualy balance their casual look with the more organized/formal striped buttercream. The top is decorated with toasted pecans (signaling what's inside), stars of buttercream, and some sprinkles...because birthday celebrations need sprinkles.

Happy Birthday, Martha!
