Minimal Mission

After knocking around the idea for a while, I've decided to try out a "capsule collection" of my own making for my fall clothes. I could share with you my whys and specific how-tos, but explains it all beautifully.

Like Unfancy, I am not counting accessories, underwear, pajamas, or workout gear in my count. I also did not count a few t-shirts that I wear when cleaning or gardening.

I settled on 39 items. Are you surprised that it's a multiple of three? I loosely followed the recommendations for selection on Unfancy. I emptied my closet, drawers, and armoire. I packed up anything that wasn't seasonally appropriate. I pulled out my favorite items that I knew I would actually wear, and then I filled in with some complementary pieces. Finally, I packed up everything else. I'm embarrassed to admit that I felt a little anxious and exhilarated. Oh well, onward and upward!

Here's what I ended up choosing:

8 pairs or shoes...
4 pairs of boots, 2 brown, 1 black, 1 shoes, loafers, high heeled booties, and chunky, low heels

8 pairs of pants...
4 pairs of skinny jeans, blue, gray, black, green...flared jeans, boyfriend jeans, cargo pants, gray chinos

20 tops and sweaters...
These are mostly tees, but I also included a turtleneck, button down, over shirt, hoodie, and a gray tank dress.

I tried to pick a variety of sweaters. There are 2 cropped, 1 cardigan, and 3 pullovers in light, mid, and chunky weights.

...and, finally, 3 coats, not pictured. They are gray, caramel, and khaki.

I am going to wear these 39 items, and nothing else, from now, September 17th, until January 1st. That means I will not buy any clothes until then either. Even though I am not a huge shopper, this will be challenging. New stuff is fun! I'm pretty sure I'll have a couple of pity parties between now and 2016. I may buy some things for the next capsule during the last two weeks (as per Unfancy's suggestion).

I feel that I should mention my current lifestyle. Since I stay at home with two small kids, I don't need a ton of variety in my clothes. Since we make our own rules, there's no reason that you couldn't make adjustments for your lifestyle. 39 items feels right for me, but that may be too much or too little for someone else. I'm not doing this to torture myself. So, I wouldn't encourage you to torture yourself either. I'm hoping to enjoy the experience, but, if I don't, I simply will not do it again.

Now, let me get back to baking!
