Cherry Pickin'

Yesterday was a lazy Sunday.  We tried out a new farmers market, went to a wine tasting, and picked some cherries at a local farm.  It was super hot outside, but I couldn't resist baking up a treat with my fresh sour cherries. The recipe is a slightly modified version of this one.  I omitted the almond extract and added extra vanilla.  I also halved the recipe and made eight mini cakes.  I had never used sour cherries before, but I am pleased with the way that their flavors become so concentrated when cooked.  My husband even said that these cakes are as good as my chocolate chip cookies, and those are his fave.  I see more cakes, and picking, in my future.
