Afternoon in Indonesia

statue at the door of the embassy
Today I went on a tour of embassies in D.C.  I have been curious about them many times, so it was fun to be free to snoop.  By far, the Indonesian Embassy was my favorite. Maybe it's because the building was an impressive and historic mansion? Maybe it was the colorful costumes the dancers were wearing? No, I'll be honest.  It was my favorite because they fed me.

Some of the best coffee in the world comes from Indonesia.  Fun fact: The capital city, Jakarta, is on the island of Java.  At the embassy they were serving espresso shots of Indonesian coffee.  I had hoped to try some of they famed Kopi Luwak coffee, but it is just too rare and expensive to hand out for free.

They were also serving krupuk udang, aka shrimp chips.  I know they sound strange, but they were surprisingly tasty.  I would have them again, given the chance.

Happy Saturday!
