Hollywood Goes to Utah

Main Street in Park City
Perfect Sundance Festival Gear
No Name Saloon
Park City, Utah is one of my favorite places.  It's Main Street is lined with old mining town buildings that have been converted to restaurants and shops.  The Wasatch mountains surround the entire town.  When we visit our family in Utah we always make sure to spend some time taking in the easy pace and beautiful views in Park City.  If you go in the summer there are plenty of trails to hike and mountain bike, but Park City is mostly known for it's world-class ski resorts.  Another major draw is the Sundance Film Festival.

The annual Sundance Film Festival brings celebs and film enthusiasts to Utah each January.  This year the festival will be running from January 20th-30th.  Founded in 1978 by Robert Redford, Sundance was started with the goal of bringing more filmmakers to Utah.  It has been extremely successful at bringing attention to small independent gems like Little Miss Sunshine, Napoleon Dynamite, Reservoir Dogs, The Blair Witch Project,  and Garden State.

If you are lucky enough to make it out there during the event, I have included my pick for the perfect festival outfit.  Once you complete the day attend films and gawking at stars stop I recommend that you stop into the No Name Saloon.  It is a perfect dive bar with a mix of tourists, ski bums, and locals.  Sure, there are plenty of posh restaurants that you could also visit, but to really unwind I prefer something very casual.  This saloon also has a heated rooftop deck from which you have a birds-eye-view of the street below.

Random Photo from a Summer Trip
Put Park City on your list of places to visit.  It is swell enough to draw Sarah Jessica Parker, Mena Survari, Emily Blunt, James Franco, Susan Sarandon, and Jennifer Anniston.  If Park City can lure them from sunny L.A. and fashionable N.Y. then it must be worth the trip.
