Book 1: An Object of Beauty

As part of my New Year's Resolutions I committed to reading at least one book per month.  I was a little scared to publicize this in fears that I would fail. One month in and I can tell you that I am so glad that I made this resolution. So far I haven't failed and I really enjoyed my first read.  For my January book I chose An Object of Beauty: A Novel by Steve Martin.  Thank you to Freezing Fashion for the suggestion.

I was drawn in quickly by this book, and I never lost interest all they way through.  It was a peek at an exciting and luxurious world, but I found myself waiting for the other shoe to drop.  In that way it reminded me of The Great Gatsby.  If you would like to read a full review of this book please read this one from the New York Times.  I don't really want to review it in detail because I would rather share my experience of reading.

It is really hard for me to sit still.  I like to say that it is my personality to be active, but really I think it is more that I am habitually active.  I don't even sit still to watch t.v.  I am always multitasking: blogging and watching a movie, watching the news and zapping my legs, or watching videos on youtube and painting my get the point.  Reading this book made me sit still.  I found that I actually really liked being still.  Reading forced me to do only one thing (I don't think that drink wine counts as multitasking).  Thank you, Reading, for helping me to slow my frantic pace.

***My February book will be When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris.

***I am hoping for suggestions of books for future months.  Please let me know if you have a recommendation.
