Chic, Not Crunchy

I had sparkling wine and my date (aka my husband) had a Bell's amber ale, an organic beer.  We were sitting upstairs in the loft, enjoying the candlelight and aroma of mulled cider.  To start, we shared a flatbread with Fontina cheese and Serrano ham.  It was perfectly salty.  The energy was right with sounds of chill Christmas songs playing and the hum of happy conversations.  It felt very cool.  Next, we had the Pennsylvania chicken Bánh mì, a tasty Vietnamese sandwich.  Through our drinks and food we talked about our days and whatever else came to our minds.  This was my perfect night out.

Dickson Wine Bar is one of my favorite places in the city.  The first time I went it was just a lucky stop.  I had just been to a concert at the 9:30 Club and I wasn't ready for the night to end.  Walking down U Street I stopped in to Dickson for a quick nightcap.  As soon as I walked inside I knew that this place was special.  It was dark and modern, but it was also very cozy.  When they brought the menu I was thrilled to see that they serve organic food.  I pursue quality in the food that I consume, but normally to get something organic I end up in a cafe named "Sunflower" or "Green...".  This is not that crunchy place you imagine when you hear "organic".  The menu is made up of small plates, meats, cheeses, flatbreads, and their specialty, Bánh mì sandwiches.  I have tried a bit of each, and I have enjoyed every bite.  Dickson Wine Bar is the kind of place that you could meet your most stylish friend, or your best friend, or a date, or you could even go by yourself.  The point is, just go.                                                               Eat, drink, and be merry!

  1. DC is a fun city- I have a friend that lives there, and I think the nightlife is great. The inside of this place looks familiar- I think she actually took me here when I was last down to visit!!

  5. Looks like a cozy little spot and I love organic restaurants. Unfortunately - I am in Richmond so this place would be a tad out of the way on a regular night. :) but something to keep in mind the next time I find myself in DC.
